| Not even in May yet and I'm already at another railway that I haven't visited for years! The North Yorkshire Moors Railway's combination of glorious scenery and challenging route make it a popular destination for all types of rail enthusiast, so when their annual diesel event comes around you can be sure of a good turnout.
In the past the NYMR have courted controversy with their use of some highly dubious traction during galas, including most incongruously a Vermin Voyager!!! Fortunately this year the lineup was pure class with two Peaks, double heading by 37197 & 37261 and even more double heading by 50007 "Teddy Elgar" & 50033 "Glorious". The event was overshadowed slightly by some resentful feelings towards the NRM with the news that this was to be 50033's final NYMR gala before it went to become a "static exhibit" at Steam - the Museum of the GWR. The decision to use a Class 50 in good working order for this purpose, in spite of all the junk ones lying around, was never going to be popular... Aside from the that, it was an excellent day with good performances from all the participating loco's, most notably the rather loud Class 25 D7628 "Sybilla" and 44004 "Great Gable", resplendent in BR Blue complete with "Class 1 Express" headcode discs. Very nice too! |
